For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus. And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” – Acts 9:19-20
There’s that word again: immediately. What a powerful word! Not soon, not later, but right now!
Saul’s vision was immediately restored. He was immediately in fellowship with the believers in Damascus (the same Damascus that desperately needs your prayers today). He immediately proclaimed Jesus in the same synagogues where he had previously denounced Him.
In one immediate moment, God forever changed Saul’s life and the future of His global church.
Pray that, like Paul, ISIS members would come to have a right understanding of Jesus. Before his experience, Paul had a wrong view of Jesus. But Jesus revealed who He was and that revelation brought about an immediate radical change in Paul’s life.
Just like Saul before his conversion, Muslims have an incorrect view of who Jesus is. Before Jesus came into this world, Jews had prophecies that foretold of the coming Messiah, but most of them did not recognize Him when He came. When Jesus appeared, even His disciples had to spend time with Him and get to know who He really was.
Members of ISIS, and Muslims in general, have misunderstood the term “Son of God.” They think Christians believe that God had sexual relations with Mary to produce a son together.
Pray that members of ISIS would have a revelation of who Jesus is. Pray that God would remove all the misunderstandings and would allow them to know Him rightly so that they would be able to proclaim His truth.
When Muslims begin to seek Jesus, they embark on a journey of discovery that demands the undoing of assumptions and misunderstandings. Hafiz is a Muslim who is growing in right belief as he studies the Bible with a field worker. He has discovered that, “if you want to get close to God, you have to go through Jesus.” Read about Hafiz’s journey at Towards Orthodoxy.
